With his endearingly large eyes, instantly recognizable silhouette, and innocently mischievous antics, GROGU has transcended his origins to become a true pop-culture icon. More than just a nod to the beloved Yoda, Grogu has carved his own unique path and captured hearts alongside Din Djarin in The Mandalorian.

One of our initial challenges was finding a compelling way to present Grogu as a standalone subject. Given his young age and the narrative focus on his interactions, he spends much of his time with other characters. To overcome this, we decided to showcase his Force abilities in action. Our chosen scene captures Grogu honing his training on Ossus, playfully levitating the local frog-like creatures.

Designing Grogu at full size, presented its own set of intricate problems, particularly in achieving the correct proportions and capturing his distinct features. While official LEGO sets offered some initial inspiration, none quite possessed the level of detail we aimed for in our larger-than-life model.

Capturing Grogu’s undeniably cute face, with its very specific shapes and expressions, proved to be a particularly fun and rewarding exercise. We experimented with a wide array of LEGO pieces and building techniques to accurately replicate the subtle contours and the characteristic calm serenity associated with the little foundling.

His outfit was much easier to create, as it is essentially a bulky cylinder with arms and a collar. We mimicked the furry texture of his collar by leaving the studs exposed and attaching them with SNOT (Studs Not On Top) bricks.

The levitated ‘frogs’ were a delightful miniature build in themselves. We designed them using a combination of SNOT bricks, brackets, and bow elements of varying sizes in Dark Green and Sand Green. Their signature single eye was created using a brick with a ball socket and a LEGO Technic™ ball element. Even the toes were meticulously crafted using clips and 1 x 1 rounds with a bar.

The rocky pillar Grogu is standing on was a relatively straightforward build. We added some Olive Green patches to imitate moss with Dark Stone Grey speckling included to create a more authentic rocky texture. Crucially, the pillar also serves the practical purpose of elevating Grogu to a height where visitors can easily see and fully appreciate his charming details.
